ABGC Celebrate Golden Gloves Winner

The Annandale Boys & Girls Club had the privilege to host the Virginia/North Carolina Golden Gloves Tournament in March.  This event is the most prestigious in amateur boxing.  Bobby Magruder, the Golden Gloves Regional Chairman, dedicated the tournament to ABGC’s founder and former Washington, D.C. Golden Gloves Champion, Everett Germain.

We hosted three action-packed days of young men and women, boys and girls, who competed with the ultimate goal of being crowned Golden Glove Champions.  When the smoke cleared and the dust settled, the Annandale Boys & Girls Club boxing team added another name to its long list of amateur champions.  Mikhail Hussain walked away with the gold medal in his age and weight division.

The Golden Gloves organization and ABGC boxing share the philosophy that there were no losers in this year’s event.  Many of those competing are at-risk youth learning important life skills and striving to be all that they can be.  In fact, ABGC boxing – in the spirit of Everett Germain – takes pride in the many young people who’ve used their boxing life-experiences to find their way toward college in addition to those who became professional boxers. ABGC has developed many good professional boxers including, Zain “Tiger” Shah, Tod “White Lightning” Wilson and Edgar “El Tigre” Torres.   ABGC is proud of our boxers, including our latest Golden Glove winner.

For more information on the Annandale Boxing program go to our website and stay tuned for more details on a major event being planned for the fall.

It’s Time for Annandale Lacrosse

Welcome to the 2017 Annandale Youth Lacrosse Season

Registration is open for all players in the Annandale, Falls Church, J.E.B Stuart, Lake Braddock and Woodson High School pyramid.

Sign up now because assessments are just weeks away.

BOYS LACROSSE:  January 28th, February 4th and February 11th at South Run Field House

We will be starting up assessments on January 28th, February 4th and February 11th at South Run Indoor Facility so go to our website and REGISTER NOW!

If you have not registered and paid, your son will not be allowed to participate.

For those of you who are new to the program, the assessments allow the coaches to place your son on the appropriate team for their knowledge, skills and abilities. We will have coaches filling out forms on fundamental skills and then we take those evaluations and determine teams at the end of the three assessment periods. For your son to get an accurate evaluation it is IMPERATIVE that they attend ALL THREE Assessments!  Remember, every boy will make a team, there are no “cuts” so tell them to relax and have fun.

GIRLS LACROSSE:  January 21st Practices begin, with assessments starting on Week 3.  Kids Choice – Annandale

Saturday Mornings 1/21 – 3/21:

7/8th grade 8 – 9:20am

5/6th grade 9:30 – 10:50am

3/4th grade 11 – 12:20am

K-2  11am – 12pm

This is a indoor facility so sneakers are fine.  We will have some loaner sticks and goggles but YOU MUST have a mouth guard. Assessments (starting week 3) group players of similar similar skill level and competition.  Those who are new to the sport require different attention then those who have been playing longer.  Even if your not trying for the advance team, please try to attend as many practices you can.  The more touches a new player gets the faster they will grow.

For K2 there are no assessments but we will start the learning process.

About the upcoming 2016 Spring season…

We’re looking to another terrific season of lacrosse at Annandale!

You Can Make a Difference this Giving Tuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday provides an alternative to shopping events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday,  #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. It’s a simple idea. Whether you come together with your family, your community, your company or your organization, find a way to give back.

Did you know?  The Annandale Boys & Girls Club offers thousands of scholarships each year to local families, who qualify, to cover registration costs for their young athletes in all of our recreational programs.  For many youth, community programs like ours provide a unique opportunity for kids to make new friends, learn a new sport or activity and be a part of a team. All while having a lot fun, too! However, too many in our community, can’t afford the registration costs

Your donations to the Annandale Boys & Girls Club will help us keep our scholarship program alive. ABGC has proudly committed, over the decades, to ensure that all of our youth have an opportunity to participate, compete and experience the joy of youth sports.  You can make that happen.

There are two ways you can make a difference for a youth athlete at ABGC.

Contribute to our scholarship program. Every dollar contributed to our scholarship program funds the registration fees for qualified Annandale families.
